Know the limits

  • The date is read as a UTC calendar day, so the result does not depend on the machine’s time zone. The original used local time on a Date object.
  • Saturday–Sunday weekends only; other calendars need their own rule.

The function above is the implementation used by the lab. The lab validates JSON types and caps size before execution; include equivalent validation when accepting untrusted input in your application.

Source & maintenance

Based on Check if a date is a weekend from the original 1loc collection by Nguyen Huu Phuoc. Copyright (c) 2020 phuoc-ng. MIT licensed.

Reads a validated YYYY-MM-DD date in UTC instead of a local Date object; explicit edge case. Original MDX retained as inert source evidence.
