Sort lines of a text document in alphabetical order
Split into lines and sort them by UTF-16 code units.
function sortLines(text) { return text.split(/\r?\n/).sort().join('\n'); }
Input & expected output
Input
"delivered\nbounced\naccepted"Expected output
"accepted\nbounced\ndelivered"The edge case
Input
"b\nB\na"Expected output
"B\na\nb"Know the limits
- Default sort order puts uppercase before lowercase, as the edge case shows. Use localeCompare for human ordering.
The function above is the implementation used by the lab. The lab validates JSON types and caps size before execution; include equivalent validation when accepting untrusted input in your application.
