## Implementation

```javascript
function dayOfYear(date) { return Math.round((Date.parse(date) - Date.parse(`${date.slice(0, 4)}-01-01`)) / 86400000) + 1; }
```

## Input

```json
"2026-10-28"
```

## Expected output

```json
301
```

## Edge case

Input:
```json
"2024-12-31"
```
Output:
```json
366
```

## Limits

- UTC dates, so daylight-saving changes cannot shift the count; the original subtracted local Date objects.

The lab validates types and size before calling this function. Add equivalent validation at your own trust boundary.
